Frequently Asked Questions

  • What can I expect during a massage at Healing Cypress?

You don’t need any special preparation for a massage. Before a massage therapy session starts, your licensed massage therapist should ask you about any symptoms, your medical history and what you’re hoping to get out of massage. Your massage therapist should explain the type of massage he or she will use.

In a typical massage therapy session, you should undress only to the point that you’re comfortable with. You will lie on a table and cover yourself with the sheet and blanket. Your massage therapist will perform an evaluation through touch to locate painful or tense areas and to determine how much pressure to apply.

Your massage therapist may use oil or lotion to reduce friction on your skin. Tell your massage therapist if you might be allergic to any ingredients. She or he may also use Aromatherapy throughout the massage. Tell your therapist if you are bothered or allergic to any scents or aromas.

A massage session may last from 30 to 120 minutes, depending on the type of massage and how much time you have booked. No matter what of type massage you are receiving, you should feel calm and relaxed during and after your massage.

If a massage therapist is pushing too hard, ask for lighter pressure. Occasionally, you may have a sensitive spot in a muscle that feels like a knot. It’s likely to be uncomfortable while your massage therapist works it out. But if it becomes painful, speak up. It is important to voice your own comfort and level of pressure for a successful massage treatment.

Afterwards, its very important to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. The next day you may feel some slight soreness if the therapist worked on a knot or sensitive muscle.

If treatment is for chronic pain and tension, regular massage every 1-2 weeks will be the most beneficial.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

To cancel a session, a 24-hour cancellation notice is required. If you give less than 24-hour notice, but more than one hour, 50% of the regular service cost will be charged. 100% of the regular service cost will be charged for an hour or less notice, including no-calls and no-shows. The appointment time slot includes time to undress, receive a massage, and get redressed.

  • What are the benefits of lymphatic drainage massage?

During a lymphatic drainage massage, a specially-trained massage therapist uses a series of gliding, compressing, stretching, and cupping motions over the client’s body. The light rhythmic movements, applied without massage oil, stimulate the lymphatic system without compressing the vessels – allowing lymph to move easily through the tissues and lymph nodes. MLD follows a specific sequence over the body so lymph isn’t trapped anywhere, making sure every area is treated with care.

Both men and women can receive lymphatic drainage massage. MLD routines have detoxification and aesthetic benefits. MLD massage technique can be effective for pain relief, digestive problems, hormonal imbalances, skin conditions (such as acne and rosacea), cellulite, allergies, headaches, and a long list of other issues. It’s also being used following cosmetic surgery to reduce swelling and flush byproducts of anesthesia out of the body. MLD has become a popular spa treatment for skin care, managing seasonal allergies, detoxification, jet lag, general stress reduction, and there is even a specific type of MLD devoted to facial rejuvenation.

MLD is a light, skin-stretching massage that helps promote the movement of lymphatic fluid out of the swollen limb. It should not be confused with a traditional massage. MLD is specifically focused on the lymph vessels to help the flow of lymphatic fluid. Therapy is applied to your unaffected areas first, making it possible for the fluid to move out of the affected area, or “decongest” the region. MLD helps open the remaining functioning lymph collectors and move protein and fluid into them, as well as to help speed up lymph fluid flow through the lymphatics.

  • What is the difference between Swedish, therapeutic, and deep tissue massage?

Swedish massage is the most common type of massage and involves long, flowing strokes, kneading, and circular movements on the topmost layer of muscles. It’s generally used for relaxation, stress reduction, and circulation improvement.

Therapeutic massage is used to address specific issues or injuries, like back pain, neck pain, or muscle strains. It involves a range of techniques including deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, and stretching.

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissues, involving slower strokes and deeper pressure typically used to address chronic muscle tension and injuries.

Remember, it’s important to communicate with your massage therapist about your goals and any specific issues or injuries you might have so they can tailor your massage to your individual needs!

  • What are the benefits of massage therapy?

Massage therapy can have numerous benefits, including reducing stress and anxiety, improving circulation, reducing muscle tension and pain, improving flexibility and range of motion, and promoting overall relaxation and wellbeing.

  • How often should I receive massage therapy?

The frequency of massage therapy sessions will depend on your individual needs and goals. Some people may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may only need monthly or occasional sessions. We offer discounted monthly bundles for our VIP members who visit us regularly — be sure to check out our VIP package options!
